March 2012
Is there anything in particular you do today that takes to right back to your childhood?
I have a few such memories and one of them I'll be sharing with you today as part of
Subject: My Dad and Doughnuts
Mum and Dad came for tea and brought doughnuts with them Custard ones and Jam ones.
After tea Dad offers *his* doughnuts and said to the boys,
"Can YOU eat a doughnut WITHOUT licking your lips"
(I have to smile because I don't think my dad can eat a doughnut without saying that.)
And so it begins.........
| (apologises for the out of focus photo) |
There was many a time when we would all (mum dad sisters and brother) sit around the table *trying* to eat a doughnut without licking our lips. Watching each other intently, laughing, accusing....it is almost impossible.
Dad always reckoned he won.
| (it's ok he doesn't read my blog!) |
Clearly he struggled too.
So my question to you is......
Can you eat a doughnut without licking your lips?
Thank you for stopping by, if you pop across to Sian there will be plenty more stories to read.
Used to love doing this - haven't had a doughnut for years. Can still remember the ticklish feeling :0)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I could manage that, the urge to lick would be unbearable (may have to buy some later to test the theory I think...)
ReplyDeleteThis is a great story and it took me right back to my childhood. When I was at junior school we'd all play the "don't lick your lips" game on the day when we had doughnuts for pudding!
ReplyDeleteOh I wish I could eat donuts! I would try so hard not to lick my lips if I could just have one sugary, Krispie Kreme donut. PAH to diabetes!!! I love the pictures, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWe used to do this ... it's impossible, you just have to lick your lips. Well I did, anyway!
ReplyDeleteThat is one for a new page! I had never heard this saying but it did remind me of something my dad often says at the end of meals: "There's a desert and a surprise.... the surprise is that there's no desert" :) Happy Sunday to you!
ReplyDeleteI remember years ago sitting at Southend seafront and eating a warm, freshly baked doughnut whilst my friend challenged me not to lick my lips! It is much harder than you think and not sure I could do it now if I tried!lol
ReplyDeleteI was never able to do so..but I'd forgotten even trying-thanks for the memory Louise!!
ReplyDeleteAlison xx
I think it might actually be impossible! A plain ring doughnut (or "gravy ring" as they are called round here) is one of my most favourite treats in the whole world..maybe I need to get a few in the morning and have a try?
ReplyDeleteGreat story Louise!
I remember trying this as a child. Might have to buy some doughnuts and give it another go this week. I'm sure my children will be willing!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, a game the whole family plays!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteMiss doughnouts… American ones.
Have a nice Sunday,
Cheers from France
lol it has got to be done hasn't it!!
ReplyDeleteThis took me right back...we used to have doughnut competitions like this....and I certainly can't eat one without licking my lips.
ReplyDeleteLOL what a super collection of photos....yes we try this too :D
ReplyDeleteDiscovered this game when I arrived in the UK, where doughnuts were different too. However, both Wookie & Princess claim that they can do this - and have offered to prove it but sadly we don't have any...
ReplyDeleteTotally can :D
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the way you've shared this in pics - works a treat!
LOL ... The answer is most defiantly NO ... Oh I love that you've captured these fun photos
ReplyDeleteThank you for reminding me of the fun we used to have with the same challenge as children!! it's near impossible!! Fab photos!! x
ReplyDeleteSo much sugary goodness... how could anyone not lick their lips! Great story, thank you.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely and definitely NO ! Love your story and the last photo !
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking it must be a British thing, because I never heard of the game. But I love donuts and would sure love to play! I think I would lose though.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting challenge ... I would have to say "No" but it would be lots of fun trying :-)
ReplyDeleteLOL...I am not sure I can. Definitely not.
ReplyDeleteNo definitely can't do that! Love the photos that go with the story, will they making their way onto a scrapbook page in the near future?!
ReplyDeleteNot if it is a sugar coated jelly doughnut - they are my favorites. Fun story and fab pictures.
ReplyDeleteno I can't so i have to keep trying!!
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly hard - my niece did manage it once but then there was a fiver riding on it!!! The other challenge you hear in this house is "Can you eat a fruit pastille without chewing it" - not as entertaining to watch as the donut one though!
